What is the name of that famous eating disorders clinic in the UK?

Thursday, November 27th, 2008

And no it is not the Priory. It is a clinic that deals only with eating disorders, and which I think is private.

is this a good thing, and will it have any effect?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080415/ap_on_he_me/france_anorexia

I think it's a good thing so that within the industry there isn't a requirement to be bony, and so women will be able to be healthy who chose that profession.
I don't think it will have a huge effect on anorexia over all. Anorexia is a mental health disease connected to OCD and control issues. And only sometimes is influenced by media.
There is nothing attractive about that model…and she looks miserable.

I want to work with people who have eating disorders- Ideas?

Tuesday, November 25th, 2008

I'm wanting to work with people who have eating disorders. I'm 19 and i'll be going to University next September, so I have time to pick what I should be studying. I just wanted to know if people knew of jobs involving eating disorders.

The two main ones that I thought of that I am interested in are:
Dietician/nutritionist
Psychologist.

Are there any others that you know of that involve this type of work? Like I said I will be going to Uni next year so I am willing to study…..

And if you have any information from personal experience about working within jobs like this, or if you have recieved treatment for an eating disorder, then tell me what type of people you saw etc

Thanks!

My advice to you would be to contact your local volunteer centre, they will have contacts with charities in your area that deal with eating disorders, volunteer to get the experience – it will only improve your chances of getting employed in that sector

lucaswharm

Now if only we (USA) can outlaw extreme fatness!!! Living in the midwest, all I see are mega fat people hanging out at the mega mart buying soda, bread, cookies, candy, & crap. Our society is the biggest it's ever been and keeps getting bigger, fatter and more disgusting. People here in Michigan wear their obesity like a badge of honor. Meanwhile, we have to pay more for our health insurance because these fat bastids are sent to the hospital everyday with diabetes, heart disease, strokes, etc…I'm sick and tired of paying for their sins…who's with me???

What are some songs that describe eating disorders or body image?

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

I’m doing a project in school, and I need 5 songs that have something to do with anorexia, eating disorders, or just body image in general. I already have one.. ‘Tied Together With a Smile’ by Taylor Swift. Please help?

‘She’s Falling Apart” by Lisa Loeb

here are the lyrics:

They pull up their chairs to the table
She stares at the food on her plate
At the toast and the butter
Her father, her mother, she pushes away

And they rise in the morning
And they sleep in the dark
And even though nobody’s looking
She’s falling apart

She gets home from school too early
And closes the door to her room
There’s nothing inside her
She’s weak and she’s tired of feeling like this

And they rise in the morning
And they sleep in the dark
And even though nobody’s looking
She’s falling apart

They call her for dinner, she makes up a reason
She looks at her arms and she rolls down her sleeves
And her mother is starting to see through her lies
And last night her father had tears in his eyes

And they rise in the morning
And they sleep in the dark
And even though nobody’s looking
She’s falling apart

And we rise in the morning
And we sleep in the dark
And even though nobody’s looking
She’s falling apart

Is Allegra Versace dead?

Sunday, November 23rd, 2008

I was reading this article on Wikipedia and it said that she died from anorexia. Is this true? how come it wasn't on the news or even the internet? For someone who inherited $700 m from fashion icon Gianni Versace, on her 18th b-day, it should have made the entertainment headlines of Yahoo or something. Please help me!!!!!!
Here's the link to all of you who are interested- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Donatella_Versace

No, it must have been a mistake. Her mother's huuuuuge in the industry, and given she has so many shares in the company, I doubt her death would pass unnoticed, in this age of paparrazi. She did deal a lot wtih anorexia, but apparently she got treatment. According to this article [http://www.hellomagazine.com/film/2006/11/02/allegra-versace/], from November 2, she is 20 years old…and alive/healthy looking.

How do I help girls with Eating Disorders?

Friday, November 21st, 2008

I want to help girls with eating disorders but I don't know what I need to study in order to gain qualifications. What should I do, and is their a particular course (in QLD) that I could do?

Study child psychology. Take a few sociology classes mostly those dealing with contemporary culture.
Do an internship with an eating disorder clinic.

Why is there more focus more on obesity than anorexia or bulemia?

Friday, November 21st, 2008

some people say its teh other way around but there has once or twice ive seen something on anorexia or bulemia on tv. and a countless number of times on the news they talked about obesity and recorded peoples stomachs as they walk by which is embarassing. i would be pissed off. and alot of people say ist not the persons fault there anorexic or bulemic. well that can be the case w/ obesity too. i used to be overweight and it was b/c i had pneumonia and the medication made me gain alot of weight.
and then they have all the weight loss shows, which are good dont get me wrong. but then they have the shows like americas next top model that encourage people to be stick thin. and just b/c a girl isnt a stick shes considered plus size even though shes average.(i was so happy when a the plus size model finally won).
they need to make a show about anorexics and tell them to get over it your not fat…but maybe im being too harsh. b/c i know its not really theyre fault its a psychological reason.
mabye what really annoys me are the average girls who think theyre fat even though theyre fine, like a lot of my friends say theyre so fat. i wish i had a body like them. i feel like saying yeah you are you fat cow, but i would never say that to anyone. they might not take it as a joke.
ahh i just had to rant about something that happened. my friend wouldnt eat anything lastnight and wouldnt wear a swimsuit in the hottub. sometimes it worries me that it might lead to an eating disorder. what do you think??
haha srry i kinda went off topic. i just had to rant.
thanks if you read the whole thing :]

Because Obesity is a choice (In most cases) where as anorexia and bulimia are diseases and affect fewer people.

What is the Sociological view of eating disorders?

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

What is the Sociological view of eating disorders?
Like, how does society perceive individuals with eating disorders to be. Also, the prevalance of eating disorders in different cultures i.e. are eating disorders less common in the East than in the West?

I would definitely talk about the impact of the media on eating disorders and effect of the whole ‘body beautiful’ image.

The following links have some useful sociological information on eating disorders:

Hope this helps!

is this a good start to my essay about anorexia?

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

I have chosen to write about a compelling argument currently overtaking our news papers, magazines and media; the growing craze to be skinny and the pressure which is imposed upon us. This pressure is unfortunately resulting in young teens having to live and battle with eating disorders such as Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia. Although it seems women are naturally insecure about their image the media most definitely contributes. The glossy magazines we see in every day life are making women feel they have to compare their selves, and their bodies to other women. However not everybody is blaming the media for this unconscionable craze. I am going to be exploring, analysing and comparing two different articles about Anorexia and the reasons as to why we believe the pressure to be ‘size 0’ is so intense.
At one point in history, a woman of an average weight or even a tad overweight was considered healthy and wealthy. In today’s world, however, that ideal image has been changed and now girls and women all over the world suffer under the pressure to be skinny and lose weight. What had once been a symbol of wealth and prosperity is now looked down upon. This growing craze overtaking the present media is more than often what causes Anorexia and Bulimia, two physical and mental eating disorders that kill thousands of people each year. The reasons in which I have chosen to write about this particular subject is because, I feel that I could benefit from learning and exploring further into Anorexia, Bulimia and other eating disorders. I would like to teach others about the serious consequences which could be faced and open their eyes to the vast amount of people it affects.

…. are you the same girl who asked this question before with regards to comparing two different articles about anorexia or did you just happen to phrase your opening paragraph in almost exactly the same way? ;)
