I'm wanting to work with people who have eating disorders. I'm 19 and i'll be going to University next September, so I have time to pick what I should be studying. I just wanted to know if people knew of jobs involving eating disorders.
The two main ones that I thought of that I am interested in are:
Dietician/nutritionist
Psychologist.
Are there any others that you know of that involve this type of work? Like I said I will be going to Uni next year so I am willing to study…..
And if you have any information from personal experience about working within jobs like this, or if you have recieved treatment for an eating disorder, then tell me what type of people you saw etc
Thanks!
My advice to you would be to contact your local volunteer centre, they will have contacts with charities in your area that deal with eating disorders, volunteer to get the experience – it will only improve your chances of getting employed in that sector

I'm not an expert but I have taken pervious psychology courses.
A dietician/nutrionist may be more interested in rehabilitating someone with a eating disorder. Such as planning meals or the best types of foods to eat for people with such problems.
A psychologist would be more interested in what causes the individual to feel like he/she needs to engage in eating disorders. They would be in charge of tapping into the individuals psyche and aiding them.
Hope this helps. It depends more on what you would want to do.

You could do both in theory. Get a bachelor's in dietetics, minor in psychology, or even double major (not that hard with psychology). You need a one year internship before you can be certified as a dietitian. Nutritionists aren't certified at all, so they don't have official standards. Then, get a master's in counseling and get certified as a counselor.

Have you considered mental health nursing? Your own interests of nutrition and psychology would be core subjects. Many patients are cared for in acute facilities and a nursing background would give you a holistic view on what this entails. You could then specialise post-grad in the area that interests you.
Hope this helps and good luck with your studies!
