In your opinion……………………………..?

is this a good thing, and will it have any effect?

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080415/ap_on_he_me/france_anorexia

I think it's a good thing so that within the industry there isn't a requirement to be bony, and so women will be able to be healthy who chose that profession.
I don't think it will have a huge effect on anorexia over all. Anorexia is a mental health disease connected to OCD and control issues. And only sometimes is influenced by media.
There is nothing attractive about that model…and she looks miserable.

I don't know if it will have any effect in reality but hopefully it may go someway to taking the pressure of young girls to be so thin. Women should be celebrated for their curves, it is one of the things that makes us women

    I doubt it'll help..
France is nowhere near big enough to stop eating disorders worldwide.
But I guess it makes a start..

I dont think it will affect the industry at all. I suppose its a good thing. I don't think girls need to grow up thinking they should look like a skelator.

I personally think it's a good thing. Models these days are starting to look sick instead of sexy. I like hips not hip bones.

hmmm. i saw a tv doc not too long ago that said france was following in Uk's footsteps with obesity problem

its mad in the west – people are either obese or starving themselves. meanwhile much of the other half of the world is starving cos they dont have enough food. the world is messed up

how do you prove in court though that someone or something was guilty of "inciting others to deprive themselves of food" to an "excessive" degree?

maybe if the media made being healthy the ideal and not being thin then society would be better off

No, it's not a good thing and no, it won't have an effect. Being thin and in a magazine isn't 'inciting thinness'. Do Beth Ditto or Dawn French incite fatness? Extreme thinness and eating disorders are a far more deep-rooted psychological problem than simply seeing a thin model and trying to be like her. Legislation is misguided, patronising and ultimately pointless.

NO not really – eating disorders are a mental illness.

However, having more 'real' women modelling clothes will give us all a better role model to aspire to!

So in my opinion it's wonderful!

Does that now mean that we will no longer be subjected to watching Skeletor 'aka' Victoria Beckham strut around a stage?

It's a good thing no doubt. That model looks horrendous. Not only that, it does have a negative effect on many women who aspire to look like the models which often leads to anorexia and bulimia. Strange thing is, most of my mates prefer a woman with 'meat' on her. How could anyone fancy that skeleton?

I do think it's a good thing. I believe it's time that the fashion industry be held accountable for the harm that it has caused to so many young women. Not only the models who must never gain an ounce lest they be considered 'too fat', but the young female consumers who feel that this body type is what they themselves need to achieve in order to be 'in fashion'.If nothing else, this bill will bring things to our attention.

Sadly no as I think the thing goes far deeper to their state of mind. I believe their will always be mental problems we can't cure alone with an idea because it takes a very obsessive person to go to these extremes.
I think a lot of this behaviour can only be improved if the sick person allows themselves to make the change. And if it is fashion item then some people are just addicts no matter what the consequences, just like if they were on hard drugs they have to go physically get the help to want to change.

Those that just follow like sheep will move on to something else they think is trendy.
