It states that "the game has attracted 200,000 members since opening its British site. The website sparked controversy in France, where it attracted 1.2 million players."
Well, I am a recovered bulimic and have daughters. Certainly I am concerned about the message young girls receive in the media. BUT where the heck are these parents of the more than 1 million girls that are allowed to get on the site in the first place? Porn sites exist too but we don't let our children visit those….where is the parental responsibility??
I'm just tired of some parents blaming the rest of the world..tv..internet, etc for their children's problems when they are largely to blame for lack of supervision and responsible parenting.
Actually, Malzypan, if you research the history of the site you'll find that it was created by a woman. Kids in the US are using the site as well, it's just that according to the data they just don't have current numbers of users tracked yet. There are plans to create an "Americanized" site as well.
To the responder who said women are probably using the site…who knows..That's not the point of my question. I'm asking opinions about "parent outrage". The parents and various groups are blaming the site for their girls' warped image of being female…instead of pulling the old plug on the computer and refusing to allow them access to the "game". In other words p-a-r-e-n-t-i-n-g responsibly rather than expecting the internet to do it for them.
I think it's retarded for a game to be like that in the first place however, I also think that if a girl has been raised properly, she won't fall for it.
I've never looked at a Barbie Doll or a picture of a woman in a magazine or anything and told myself that I'm going to become bulimic or anorexic to look that way. I knew it was always the wrong thing because that's how my parents raised me.

its nonsense, then again alot of stuff on the internet is crap anyway. whether or not that website exists, there is still tv, media, magazines and peer pressure that encourage young girls to become bulimic. The parents certainly shouldnt be letting their young kids go on the internet unsupervised anyway.

Might I suggest that it's possible that some of the players of this online game are adults…middle aged women, maybe? They want to virtually relive their teenage years as the popular, egotistical, materialistic young women…the glory days.
Regardless, what I see is a couple of sick men that developed a game geared at media-drowned pre-teen girls with the knowledge that unfortunately a lot of parents don't monitor EVERYTHING their children do online. SHAME ON THEM.
