Did any of you see the latest on Yahoo News?
.."young girls are encouraged to monitor the weight, wardrobe, wealth & happiness of their virtual character to create "the coolest, richest and most famous bimbo in the world." The girls compete to earn "bimbo dollars" which can use to buy larger breasts, diet pills, nip-and-tuck surgery, sexy lingerie and nightclub outfits. Healthcare professionals have warned that website encourages anorexia and bulimia ….".
It states that "the game has attracted 200,000 members since opening its British site. The website sparked controversy in France, where it attracted 1.2 million players."
Well, I am a recovered bulimic and have daughters. Certainly I am concerned about the message young girls receive in the media. BUT where the heck are these parents of the more than 1 million girls that are allowed to get on the site in the first place? Porn sites exist too but we don't let our children visit those….where is the parental responsibility??
I'm just tired of some parents blaming the rest of the world..tv..internet, etc for their children's problems when they are largely to blame for lack of supervision and responsible parenting.
Actually, Malzypan, if you research the history of the site you'll find that it was created by a woman. Kids in the US are using the site as well, it's just that according to the data they just don't have current numbers of users tracked yet. There are plans to create an "Americanized" site as well.
To the responder who said women are probably using the site…who knows..That's not the point of my question. I'm asking opinions about "parent outrage". The parents and various groups are blaming the site for their girls' warped image of being female…instead of pulling the old plug on the computer and refusing to allow them access to the "game". In other words p-a-r-e-n-t-i-n-g responsibly rather than expecting the internet to do it for them.
I think it's retarded for a game to be like that in the first place however, I also think that if a girl has been raised properly, she won't fall for it.
I've never looked at a Barbie Doll or a picture of a woman in a magazine or anything and told myself that I'm going to become bulimic or anorexic to look that way. I knew it was always the wrong thing because that's how my parents raised me.

well todays society people are brainwashed every where they go when it comes to that…everywhere you look for every advertisment, commercial, tv show beauty is always shown as a beautiful, skinny person.

Wow, that's just wrong.
WHat has this world come to?

why would a girl want to participate in something that calls them a bimbo…… that is so degrading and disrespectful to themselves i can' believe girls these days its like parents are allowing them to be dumber…… somethings wrong with this picture

its nonsense, then again alot of stuff on the internet is crap anyway. whether or not that website exists, there is still tv, media, magazines and peer pressure that encourage young girls to become bulimic. The parents certainly shouldnt be letting their young kids go on the internet unsupervised anyway.

It's horrifying. Let's show little girls how to be tramps and gold diggers… Yeah, that's brilliant.

Thats just degrading and stupid. I would never want to be called a "bimbo". I think some girls try to act dumber ("bimbo" like) because they think others will accept them, doesnt make sense i know, but i see it every single day. And sadly it is almost always true these days.

Well, if the girl is stupid to compete in games as stupid and degrading as that IT"S HER FAULT. As for the website I think it a sad reflection on our current soceity. AND If the parents blame the sites and other for their kids problem it their fault as well.

i think its fine if the people playing are mature and parents monitor what thier kids play

Might I suggest that it's possible that some of the players of this online game are adults…middle aged women, maybe? They want to virtually relive their teenage years as the popular, egotistical, materialistic young women…the glory days.
Regardless, what I see is a couple of sick men that developed a game geared at media-drowned pre-teen girls with the knowledge that unfortunately a lot of parents don't monitor EVERYTHING their children do online. SHAME ON THEM.

Thats just sick and not right it should get removed from the internet.
Its sending the wrong message to teens about you should stick Botox in your face to look great. and beening fake
People should stay the way they are

totally. it's the parents fault for allowing them to be exposed to the inappropriate media.

That sounds stupid and I'll stick to Rune Scape

I like the declaration that the USA and the UK are 2 countries united by a different language.
At last we may be able to see that the English have misunterstood the Language for all these years!!! and they are the one who originated it !
What baffles me is that being a "Bimbo" is a desirable thing in Brittain !!!!
Of course they had help from the French on this one !
<<Vive le Bimbeau!>>

Have you played the game it's so much fun.

I have been seeing the Miss Bimbo story everywhere — sad that it is so hard to get that same visibility for a site that does girls some good.
There are options to Miss Bimbo. There are great, age-appropriate sites for preteen girls. Check out http://www.beaconstreetgirls.com
This is positive media with strong role models for preteen girls. Girls post (safely, all monitored) comments on things like: Are we too old for Halloween? What’s the appropriate age for wearing makeup? They discuss friendship and social issues, even cyber-bullying and Internet gossip. Yes, the site has fashion content and dress-up games, puzzles and quizzes, but it is all stuff that any reasonable parent is going to be OK with.
