How is it effective to tackle eating disorders in schools?
What would be useful interventions in schools regarding eating disorders, body image etc.. or would exploring and tackling self harming be more useful?
I think educating kids in school in their sex education, biology or PE class about eating disorders & the physical & mental damage they can do both short & long term to health would b a good idea.I think eating disorders are probably more common than self harming as there are a few difrent types of eating disorders plus most people go on some kind of diet in their life so can relate to the issue whereas not evryone self harms.Educating young people about the physical damage it can do & how it can ruin both urs & ur familys lives & the impact having an eating bdisorder has on evryone who comes in contact with it might make some young people realise how serious it is & not do it.Education is the name of the game.Sometimes young people do or start something without realising where it can lead or wot the full consequences of sumthing mite b.If they thought about it a bit more they might neva hav done it so educating them & making them think about certain issues is a good thing.

it would be a complete waste of time/resources/effort to correct a small problem that is caused by general stupidity on the kids' behalf.

I think all schools should have an eating disorder and health club for people to join in order to talk about their issues, problems, what they are doing, what they are doing wrong, what works, how to look good without harming yourself, the importance of nutrition, best exercises, best way to exercise, etc.
preaching to kids won't work, letting them join a club that they fit into and don't feel like a freak or like they need to hide everything should

I think the school should have a recovered anorexic or bulimic come in to the school and talk to kids about this disease! I think this disease could be prevented! Most schools talk about sex and STD's but not many of them talk about cutting, mental sicknesses, or eating disorders!
