So I’m doing a project at school where you have to find an article for each conflict (man vs man, man vs nature, man vs self, and man vs society). I found this article about Luisel Ramos, a model who starved herself to death on a diet of only lettuce and diet coke. I cant decide wether or not to classify this as man vs self or man vs society. It could be man vs self because she was fighting anorexia but I’m leaning more towards man vs society because she felt that to be a successful model she had to starve herself to be thin to be accepted in a way… what do you think and why?
Heres the article:
http://www.theage.com.au/news/eating-disorder/survival-of-the-thinnest/2006/10/05/1159641434825.html
It could fall into both categories.
She is fighting herself in the way that she is anorexic and her body needs more nutrition. She starved herself to death on foods that don’t really help your body.
Also, society pressures her into being anorexic, she is going by their opinions, not what should be done.
You might want to pick a different article if you really can’t decide.
Both will work though, you just have to back up your arguement.

like 100000 its awesome!!!

man vs. self believe me i learned this last year it is because he is arguing pretty much with his body!!!! forms of conflict right???
References :
i’d do self because the people weren’t pressuring her to do it

Yeah!

got a point
References :
yeahh definatly man vs society.. because without society judging her and telling her what a model should look like..she wouldnt have done tht to herself

Does you article only have to be about one conflict? If yes, then choose man vs self because she was fighting her body to look good. If not then choose both.
References :
i’d say it’s both.
versus self because it’s probably causing her a lot of pain yet she starves her self.
versus society because she was trying to satisfy the society’s standard of beauty, which is really skinny.
References :
definitely man vs. society because she wouldn’t have been doing if she wasn’t in the industry, she wouldnt have initially died if it wasnt for the industry
References :
i understand what you’re saying. choose either one, because it fits as both, and then just find another article on the conflict that you didn’t choose. that would make the most sense.
References :
I would say man vs. self because society didn’t tell her to go anorexic, she just assumed it did. She’s battling herself.
References :
man vs society cuz shes trying to fit in to what the society wants her to be. pressurrrre

I would characterize it as both because it can’t just be one or the other. Both of them are very valid points. Make a case for the article in either direction and just find another article for the one that you don’t use. =)

After being an anorexic myself, definitely man vs society! We compare ourselves whether we realize it or not to what is going on in society!

man vs. self
she is doing this to and FOR herself.
it may to be to model or whatever but its still her choice. she doesnt have to do it. there is nothing in society she is fighting
References :
I’d say man vs. self.
Don’t trust me though.
I’m always wrong with stuff like this XD

man vs. society bcuz she is trying 2 fit in the society

Very interesting question.. I think Man VS. Society because if society wasn’t so weight conscience, it wouldn’t have been a problem.
References :
I would say Man vs. Society. I think this because if she wanted to be a model, that has to do with society. It could also work for Man vs. Self. But I think Man vs. Society is better. Luisel Ramos was fighting anorexia to be a model. So doesn’t that prove society?
Hope I Helped!

In a way it can be somehow both..
Man vs. self to win against man vs. society.
It’s a whole mental conspiracy
References :
I would say man vs society because the pressure from society to be “perfect” and thin, it caused her to develop anorexia, which became man vs self.
But man vs society started it.
That’s what I think.
(:
Hope I helped.

I think it would be man vs. self because they are fighting against they’re urge to eat right in order to fit in.
it wouldn’t be man vs. society because they’re trying to fit in with they think society wants.

This is a definite case of “woman vs society.”
References :
man vs. society. technically it could be seen as both but classifying it as man vs. society gives you a chance to express your thoughts about the problem in a better manner. good luck.

Man vs Self
I have struggled with Anorexia Nervosa since I was 12. I can tell you that the media did not force me into it. I just kind of “slipped” into this bad behavior. Sometimes the media influences or pushes girls to slip into that behavior, but mostly it is one fighting with her inner self. Every day is a living hell. I fight with my self constantly. I know another girl with an eating disorder who is Amish, and the Amish have no outside media influence, let alone mirrors. So, she was fighting herself.
Hope that this could clear things up.
Best of Wishes.

Man vs Nature. It just HAPPENED naturally. I guess.

I’d say man vs. self, because she physically did that to HERSELF. True though that the cause of her psychological state stems from society, but all in all she still did that to herself, by herself. She chose to be a model, and she chose to do that.

She didn’t have to starve herself like that. She could have taken a normal diet instead but she felt that wasn’t good enough so she chose herself a more extreme diet.
