help please?

I have to do a 3min talk on a subject for school. What do you think of this, is it effective, interesting and informative? How would you conclude, am a bit stuck with that.

I have decided to do my talk on phobias, because I just think it’s a really interesting subject, so I’m going to talk about why people get phobias, how they are treated, my suspected phobia and just go through some of the ones I find most interesting.

A phobia is an irrational, persistent fear of certain situations, objects, activities, or persons. The main symptom of this disorder is the excessive, unreasonable desire to avoid the feared subject.

It is said that phobias usually originate from either a specific event which was traumatic to the sufferer or and evolutionary trait which has conditioned humans to fear certain creatures which could harm them like ophidiophobia fear of snakes. And like other disorders it is believed that, genetics and brain chemistry combine with life-experiences to play a role in weather or not you develop a phobia.

I think that I probably have Suriphobia which is the fear of mice. And I realised this after I started researching this when I looked at the typical behaviours of someone with a phobia. I would say that I torture my self a bit because if I hear a rustling noise then I say to myself ‘that could be a mouse’ I think this originate from a time when I watched the news and they said that you area certain distance above ground from a rat/mouse in
London at all time. That did scare me a bit but what scared me most was that no matter their size they can squeeze under gaps of a centimeter or less. So sometimes when I look at my bedroom door I think a rat can get under that. Even a picture of a rat gives me chills me out and that rat found outside the cafeteria scared the life out of me- it was huge!

There is an amazingly long list of phobias on the internet, and I just picked out a few I found most interesting, but for different reasons. So there are the ones that we have heard about like, arachnophobia which is a fear of spiders, claustrophobia the fear of enclosed spaces and homophobia- fear of homosexuality.
Then there’s phobias like obesophobia which is the fear of gaining weight and it is usually found in those with anorexia or bulimia.

Then on the list were some that made me laugh, because they are quite strange like:
Anablephobia – Fear of looking up.
Bogyphobia- Fear of bogeys or the bogeyman
Cyclophobia- Fear of bicycles.
Ephebiphobia- Fear of teenagers.
Geniophobia- Fear of chins.
Sinistrophobia- Fear of things to the left or left-handed.
Consecotaleophobia- Fear of chopsticks.
Hippopotomonstrosesquippedaliophobia – Fear of long words.

I just wanted to share my findings about phobias with you because as I said I found it really interesting and although some of them are funny we should remember that phobias are serious disorders which can affect people’s whole lives.

Thank you,

It's great but cut out some of it because it would take way more than 3 minutes to say. Thanks for the list of phobias, the fear of long words made my day.
