Remuda Ranch: Where Best Friends are Made (and Life Starts).

Note: Sorry for the blurriness of some photos- I don’t have a scanner, so that meant I had to take a picture of the photo using my iPhone in order to upload it.

A chronological photo timeline of my friends and me at Remuda Ranch Inpatient Treatment Centre for Anorexia/Bulimia Nervosa in Wickenburg, AZ.

December 2007 – February 2008.

Comments (C)/Questions (Q) + Answers (A):

C: I think? Remud?a could? help a lot more girls? if they got rid of the Jesus? aspec?t.
A: RR is not overly-zealous when it comes to spirituality, though yes, it is a part of their recovery programme. I went as a strict atheist, for example, and have known others who have different beliefs/no beliefs that went and got a LOT out of it.

C: You know I think? they’r?e “tube happy.” Nowhere? else do I see so many prett?y norma?l-looki?ng girls? with NG tubes.
A: Here’s a question: What’s “normal-looking” to you? When it comes to the NG tube, I think I’ve told you that the reason RR does it more frequently is a) it is an “easier” method for weight restoration and b) studies have shown that it is more effective for weight restoration than Ensure Plus, Boost, CIBs, etc products.

Q: Does Remud?a reall?y spell? “centr?e” [like that]? Becau?se I belie?ve it’s “cente?r” ?with an “er.” This isn’t Franc?e. ;P
A: Yes, it’s spelled “center,” so you’re right. I, however, use English spellings. So yeah, hence the “re.” Haha.?

    If you’re uming …
If you’re uming that therapy won’t help at all, what are you looking for in a treatment facility? A very large portion of being in a facility is focussed on therapy, with emotional support (as well as meal support) day and night. No matter what level of care you are looking into, you have to be willing to make the change in yourself, as it’s about learning how to cope in appropriate and non-destructive ways. I have heard of girls struggling with eating disorders for less time who died…

    I have a question.. …
I have a question.. How ‘severe’ (not sure what other word to use, sorry) does a person’s ED have to be for them to go to a treatment center? Does it matter? Just wondering because, while I know that I have an ed, I haven’t had it for very long (like 5 or 6 months..) but I don’t want to get worse, if that’s possible. Also, I don’t think I’d benefit from ‘just therapy’. Actually I’m sure it wouldn’t help at all…

    It is pretty …
It is pretty uncomfortable, but the real discomfort would be the re-feeding process, honestly.

  12. prettysailorusagi says:

    It doesn’t have …
It doesn’t have anything to do with weight (underweight, normal weight, or overweight), and honestly, there’s no real “variation” in size because everyone was wearing many layers of clothing (it was very cold). I think I wore at least 4-5 layers everyday while there. They work with clients who have anorexia/bulimia nervosa.

From what I’ve seen from these pictures, many of these girls have the same frame and around the same body weight. I don’t see many that may struggle with obesity. Would this be a good place for them as well?

    Yes, I was there …
Yes, I was there with Selena during her second stay. She is such an amazing woman and friend. Oddly enough, I was there with Annie, as well, but she was down the hill and I only spoke with her once while I was there. Both are incredible women- beautiful, powerful, and great friends. :) [Intervention honestly doesn't do either of them justice. I'm pretty sure Selena doesn't like remembering it, and I'm SURE that Annie doesn't.]
