I spent 79 days at Remuda Ranch/RLP in the summer of 2008. I recovered from bulimia and self injury there.

I’ll ask you the same question I asked someone else. From what I’ve seen, most of these girls have the same framework and struggled with anorexia or bulemia. None seemed to have struggled with obesity. Is this a place that addresses that issue as well?

  19. There are multiple reasons behind eating disorders, a lot of the time it’s a coping mechanism, it’s about feeling like they have control over something in there life when they feel like they have no control over anything else. Yeah, it can be all about food, dieting gone too far, but most of the time there is more to it then that

I would be so so careful about even letting those voices have ANY power over you. Your experiment was the first step in a downward spiral unless you truly TRULY stop enabling the binge. In any form.

With Jim Webster's decision not to run for reelection, the anti gun crowd lost a major player. (One down, three to go) If Joe Brinkley does the same thing, which he should, Mark Riley may become aware of just how angry this bunch, with the exception of Commissioner Roth, have made the citizens of Parker County.
There should be open debates between the candidatres before the primary, so that we the citizens are more aware of just who we are voting for. Do you know where Mark Riley is from? His “home town” or “home state”? Where he went to school?
Cary McKay is a true Republican Conservative and would be a fine choice for Parker County Judge. Join me in backing this fine young man to represent us in our county government.

Anorexia and other eating disorders may also be a symptom of a wounding, devaluation and distortion of one’s humanity, of disrespect/disregard of one’s personhood, of the violation or trespass of boundaries (the sacred boundaries set by God) resulting in an anger, rebellion, rage reaction to being depersonalized and trespassed upon.

  24. Meghan Burek says:

    Hi Kendra,
I was going to say something along the lines of what Megan mentioned below! Orthorexia definatly appears to be a form of disordered eating as it is characterized by an unhealthy preoccupation with food. Although they are not minimizing their food consumption in the same way that anorexic or bulimic individuals may, they are still limiting their food choices as they want only the healthiest or purest of foods.
It is also apparent that a psychological aspect of Orthorexia is suggested (the OCD component), which correlates with the psychological battle that individuals with other eating disorders experience. Very intesting post, glad your bringing this to the public's attention!

  25. hope505 says:

…even today it seems as if Anorexia and Bulimia are the king and queen of the ED prom…mention 'eating disorder' and that's what people will likely think of.

What is 'orthorexia'? Chewing up food and then spitting it out? There's Compulsive Overeating, other eating disorders with 'bulimic features' or 'borderline anorexia' or EDNOflippin' S. Disordered eating is becoming the new norm! Eeeee! I have heard women and girls of many races talk about their discomfort with their bodies…dieting…

I’m a little disappointed in this video for its presentation of information and exclusive focus on women. I certainly understand the focus on women, since they are disproportionately affected (no argument or doubt in my mind there)–but I can’t help but wonder about the 800 000 American men who went unmentioned after the first few seconds. I also can’t help but wonder to what extent gender bias may affect diagnosis (or even seeking out treatment), and hence the stats (does anyone know of any studies on that front?). I’m also unclear about some of the stats: it looks as though numbers for anorexia, bulimia, and other eating disorders (such as muscle dysmorphia–aka megarexia and its ilk–or other types of body dysmorphia) have been used interchangeably/lumped together, occasionally in ways that may not be appropriate.
