why is over eating not consider an eating disorder. It’s just as fatal as all the other eating disorders?

I obsess about eating all the time ,I feel guilty for eating but we all know we have to eat. Then were told if you don’t eat your body will think your trying to starve it so it goes into starvation mode and holds onto all your fat.I would guess that 98% of "fat" people would love to be thin but how????? Yes eating less and exercise is part but not all .The goverment talks about eating healthy but have you checked out fruit prices lately? A bag of chips is 3x cheaper and usually taste pretty darn good to .I love fruit and veggies but having a family of 5 to support it’s not easy or cheap..

overeating is considered an eating disorder. compulsive overeating (COA) is considered an eating disorder according to the DSM-IV, and while the symptoms are obviously different than anorexia, it is just as serious. The DSM-IV also has a category for "Eating Disorders Not Otherwise Specified" (EDNOS) … this often times includes individuals who have unhealthy eating habits and thoughts regarding food.

it is an eating disorder. things like popcorn is about as cheep as chips, or preztels…try other things, and i know a growing family is not easy. but, they also need to learn the right kind of foods to eat as well, or they grow up doing the same thing

Overeating and obsessing about eating and feeling guilty about eating is bulimia. Only about 1/3 of bulemics actually throw up.

It is an eating disorder. You learn to make better choices more of the time. It doesn’t have to be perfect.

I don’t think that many ppl think of it as an eating disorder bc many seem to think it is the persons own fault – lack of self control and such – not anything serious.

over-eating is an eating disorder, who ever told otherwise was wrong. there are groups called over-eaters anonymous (oa) which deals with people as alcoholic anonymous and narcotics anonymous.

Overeaters Anonymous (OA) is a twelve-step program offering a program of recovery from compulsive overeating and other eating disorders using the twelve steps and twelve traditions as interpreted by OA. Participants need not be overweight — in fact, some OA members are bulimic or anorexic. Like other twelve-step groups, OA groups typically meet weekly. More women than men participate in this program in most locations.

yep overeating is a disorder, and can also be an addiction. I believe that 98% of ALL people who are over weight are food addicts… whether they think so or not. (myself included)

Your also right about healthy foods being expensive. But you need to realize that it is well worth the money. When you buy your kids say… fruit over chips your are investing into their lives, into their health. We don’t want our children having the same addictions we have, nor the same problems.

You know one thing I see in common in all mobile elderly people over the age of 65 – 70 – they all seem to be skinny. Being thin is the number one thing that prolongs life. If we can’t do it ourselves we need to at least try and give our children the gift of health and long life. ( I think it’s more important then paying for their education.)

Over eating is considered an eating disorder, it is just so common in america that most follks don’t talk about it. I listed a few books that you might find helpful :) Also, some areas have support groups on this that you might find helpful. Check with your local hospitals or search online for one near you.
