I have been to the doctors recently, and they have referred me to an Eating Disorder place that is both outpatient and inpatient. I am really worried and don’t know what to expect. I have been inpatient before at a different place. Does anybody know what circumstances define being put in inpatient or outpatient? I am in a mess and arguing with my boyfriend about food all the time and i feel depressed and feel suicidal and don’t know what to do anymore
heres what u can expect: I know youve done inpatient before but some places are differant.
part inpatient part outpatient means
that the first part of your treatment will be inpatient
then when you and your dr’s feel you can take the next step you will be moved up to outpatient treatment.
you can expect heavy therapy single and probably group.
nutrition classes. life skills classes and maybe even some coping lectures.they will make you eat and they will usually treat you like a damn criminal when it comes to food.
what differs from being placed in inpatient as appposed to out are usually health factors. in eating disorders its usually weight and BMI. ONce you go below a certain weight for your size your organs can shut down. Kidney failure …all that. So basically its to save a life.
outpatient is usually therapy daily again group and one on one.
take care of yourself

I would try inpatient again. When you do inpatient you have nothing to do but focus on your recovery. No other outside stress. You need to do this for you and stay at a facility will put all the attention on you. I wish luck in your decision and pray for your healthy recovery. Good luck!

If you are suicidal, you need to be in inpatient. No questions asked.
But they way they determine if you are inpatient or outpatient is if you are a danger to yourself and/or others. If you have been in inpatient before, the doctor probably feels that outpatient will be fine (for now). You are probably being recommended for outpatient because your weight is low, but not too low where it is completely jeapordizing your health (whereas you might have a heart attack) and need 24 hour watch.
I am sorry your boyfriend is fighting with you. I too suffered from anorexia from about 12 to 19. I was in and out of inpatient hospitals. I am 26 now and even though I am at a normal weight, I too still struggle with food and exercise. It is a constant battle with me and my boyfriend. Unless you have been through it, you truely don’t understand.
If you ever want to talk, feel free to email me. I don’t know how old you are, but this disease does not know age, and we all have the same feelings. Good luck to you and please let the doctors try and help you. I know it can be scary!
