Anorexia is a serious illness of the mind. Its not about eating food. Its about your friends ability to be in control of her self. However once this is her chosen method the brain starts to starve and then the mind no longer processes thoughts logically. You only have to go without food for a short while to realise how grumpy you can get. The key to helping her - other than by her parents getting her help is to be her best friend. Be there for her - just listen. She is trying to say something.
References :
My BFF was anorexic in high school. When she finally started to get better she told me that she hated it when people would tell her to eat a burger or that she looked so gross because she was so skinny. She said she hated it because she knew she was to skinny and it only hurt her feelings to have people point it out to her. So definitely do not say anything like that to your friend as it will not help get her better. With my BFF I had to sit down with her and find the root cause of the problem (which was that her boyf had dumped her so she wanted to try and look 'good' for him by losing weight to win him back). Once you know what caused the problem then you can start to help. Its not about an anorexic accepting that they are 'fat' its more about finding out why they are doing this to themselves and then figuring out how to help with that.

Hope this helped!
