Can daily anxiety get so bad you get migraines from it?

Monday, November 30th, 2009

I have been living with anxiety my whole life it seems. Over the last couple years it has caused me to have muscle tension/pain in my shoulders and now my neck as well. Since April I have headaches/migraines. I stopped working and some days I have to stay on my couch the whole day because of how the pain has gotten. I am getting health insurance next month but I just wanted to know if anyone has had this extreme physical pain from anxiety or is it possibly something else?

Yes, anxiety can cause migraines and many other bodily conflicts. You sound like me, I have GAD, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, which has caused migraines, costochondritis, neck and muscle pain and more. My doctor has tried antidepressants which also can act as antianxiety medicine, though we haven’t found one that’s right for me yet. I suggest talking to your doctor about your options of antidepressants(really antianxiety) and try massage to relieve some of the tension in your neck and back. Good luck!

Has Anyone Ever Been To Intensive Outpatient Treatment for Anorexia or..?

Monday, November 30th, 2009

or do you know someone who did? What was your experience? How long did you do it for?

Thanks

I know someone is in one now. She has been going for 3 months. she has group sessions and sometimes her mom comes for family sessions. she says it is scary but also very comforting to know she is not alone. it did not change her right away, but slowly i think she is getting better. she says there is a lot of art therapy and that’s her favorite part. she also has one on one time with a counsellor, but she won’t tell me about that

What is the relation between Anorexia and Menstrual cycles?

Monday, November 30th, 2009

Okay… so I have been in a state of Anorexia for about a month and a half and the time for my period has come and past. I am 13 days late (which is a while for me) and I’m concerned that it’s from lack of eating. Do you think it just skipped? or is it from lack of food?

Female athletes often experience missing periods due to heavy activity.
Poor diet can effect periods, though the reasons why aren’t completely clear.
In severe anorexic states, periods stop because women need a certain amount of body fat in order to ovulate and menstruate normally (which often plays a role for female athletes as well as the activity levels).

If you’ve only been in this state for a month, it’s highly unlikely one has anything to do with the other. It usually takes a few months before things like that "catch up" in your uterus and you notice a problem.
Girls and women miss periods all the time with no clear reason behind it. If it goes missing for a few months in a row, it’s usually advised to see a doc and rule out any physical conditions that might cause it.

You should probably see a doc anyways and get the anorexia thing nipped in the bud. Missing periods would be the least of your worries.

Whats the difference between anxiety and adrenalin rushes?

Whats the difference between anxiety and adrenalin rushes?

I would have thought the majority of people love adrenalin rushes, the feeling and all but i hate it

Whenever i get an adrenalin rush i see it as a bad , negative feeling, its hard to accept and hate it when it happens or could this be anxiety?

For instance if ive not seen a member of my family for a long time i get an adrenalin rush when i see them again, but i hate it, i should be happy about seeing them but the adrenalin rush or anxiety makes me negative about seeing them

Anxiety is what you feel when your are going to Disney land in the morning.

Adrenalin is what you feel when a stranger pulls a knife on you or you get into a car accident.

What is it like to stay in the hospital for anorexia?

Thursday, November 26th, 2009

If someone were to stay in a hospital for anorexia, what is a typical day like? And if the patient didn’t want to eat would the doctors make them? And do you have to stay in bed the whole time?

If you are at a very very dangerously low weight you probably would have to stay in bed hooked to a feeding tube. They don’t put everyone on feeding tubes, only if they are at serious risk of death.

If you are so thin your heart may be damaged you have to stay in bed to avoid giving yourself a heart attack, but as you gain weight and get stronger you are allowed more freedom.

Usually it’s really boring. There isn’t much to do and you are monitored really carefully around meal times. You end up bonding really closely with all of the other patients. Most of the time you just watch TV, read, talk or smoke. There is not much else to do. Sometimes you are allowed to exercise or play physical games but they are monitored and controlled by staff.

They won’t force feed you if you don’t eat but they will punish you by not letting you leave the table etc. If you are really stubborn and refuse to eat they will make you have a feeding tube.

At first they don’t make you eat at all, they just give you high calorie shakes to drink, but gradually they introduce real food into your diet.

You get weighed a couple of times a week, usually very early in the morning. They do loads of other tests too to test your circulation.

You have therapy and/or counselling almost every day. Sometimes this is in groups and sometimes it is individual. They try to get you to look at everything from a different perspective.

If you need any more info let me know.

How can i explain my anxiety to my fiance that I’m about to marry next weeK?

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

I keep obsessing over my tmj. I get tense, heart rate increases, dizziness. He does’nt understand anxiety and it’s pretty severe right now. Waiting for the Zoloft to kick back in. How do I explain this to him?

Take him to your Dr / Therapist. He needs to start UNDERSTANDING and showing interest in your health if he is marrying you. Do not try to hide this from him. It’s a matter of honesty about who you are.
