Can anorexia and other eating disorders stop periods?

Monday, November 23rd, 2009

If you already have your period and your become anorexic or bulimic, can you stop having your period?

yes, it definitely can stop your period. The female hormone estrogen (the hormone that starts you periods), is stored in the fat of your body. For this reason, you must have body fat to get your period, so rapid and unsafe weight lose of that kind will stop your period and increase your chance if infertility.

How important is confidence in life? Is confidence related to anxiety?

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

I blamed anxiety before for not being outgoing. I am anxious, therefore I have a problem being outgoing. But, could the underlying reason to my reserved behavior be because of say "low confidence in myself?"

And that could apply to anything, from holding a conversation, to work, to school, etc. IF I am not confident in myself, I am anxious, or it could as well be that if I am anxious I am not confident.

Do you think, that both are important in life, that if you have confidence, you have low anxiety. Or that if you work to reduce anxiety, the lower it is, the higher ur confidence?

I don’t think these two emotions are bound together, but they do impact us in ways that make us think they are two sides of a continuum. Low anxiety must mean high confidence, but that is probably not really true.

There is some relationship to our family behaviors when we were being reared that impacts us as to confidence and anxiety. If our parents demonstrated high anxiety, we will be more prone to exhibiting that same behavior. If our parents demonstrated high confidence, we will tend to be more confident.

If you have problems performing due to feelings of anxiety when you try to stand and speak, or find yourself struggling to do your job as you feel a lack of confidence in your ability, then you may need to spend some time with a counselor (maybe your pastor, or a licensed therapist depending on which you would trust more), and try to get to the root cause of the behavior. Do not blame yourself, or anyone else as this is something that can be overcome with help and assistance of a good counselor.

Another really super thing you could do, if you can get past the fear of letting go, is NLP (that is neuro-linguistic programming). NLP is akin to hypnotizing, but more clinically controlled and has a record of really getting results in changing behaviors.

Do You Think It Would Be Ok To Stop Looking For Treatment For My Anorexia?

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

I was looking for treatment for my Anorexia but, recently I was able to eat on my own without forced. It was like I became a different person like someone shut up the voice inside my head for a while and I was able to eat for a while but, that didn’t last long. The voice is back but, the reason why I was asking is because I was able to eat for a short amount of time. What do you think? Would it be worth it to still look for treatment? Because I’m not underweight in fact, I’m at a healthy weight for my age and height. I’m just confused now. Help?

Ask any Alcoholic and the answer is "admitting you have a problem is the step to curing it". So you’re on the way, You didn’t state an age but stereotyping says you’re a young teen, recognize that your weight and shape will change in puberty so there is no ideal weight.Tell the voice to just shut up at times like before dinner and have a piece of pie.

Why does recovoring from anorexia put you in a hypermetobolic state?

Saturday, November 21st, 2009

I am recovering from anorexia and I`m being told by doctors that I have to eat a lot because my metabolism is going through the roof right now. I know that when your body is starved your metabolism slows down but what I don`t understand is how it speeds up so quickly once you get back to eating. So is it true that I`m in a hypermetabolic state right now and that my metabolism is sky-rocketing, and why is it doing that?

I am basically in the same situation as you. When your body has been deprived from food for so long, your metabolism is very slow and it isn’t used to breaking down food. However, when your body is suddenly being fed again, it thinks that it isn’t going to last, so it’s important for it to use up every calorie, just in case it won’t be fed again for a long time. I heard that it does take awhile for your metabolism to get back on track, but it will eventually go back to normal. In the meantime, just keep up on the calories.

How do I deal with anxiety, guilt and sadness returning to work after baby?

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

I am returning to work in 2 weeks and am feeling extreme anxiety and guilt about leaving my 6-month baby. I haven’t been apart from him for more than 6 hours since he’s been born. Financially our family needs two incomes, and I am obligated to return to work, but am emotionally not ready. Whenever I think of it, I start crying. How can I deal with this?

Just remember that what is good for the mother is good for the child. All involved in the family process have their own needs. Even at an early age children start to understand that they fit in to a larger picture. So getting back to work or your regular routine is really good for a baby. It provides a rythm to their world. Plus after you have picked the proper type day care for you and your child you can feel confident that the socializing they are picking up inherently is very valuable as well.

But if these feeling persist or intensify see your doctor or a therapist as post partum depression is real and terrifying.

Good luck with work! Enjoy.

Do You Think It’s Okay If I Wait 3-4 Weeks Before I Get Treatment For My Anorexia?

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

I’ve had Anorexia since last September sometime. Don’t worry, since my mom makes me eat at least one meal a day, I haven’t lost a substantial amount of weight. Because when I was attempting self treatment I gained 5 or 6 pounds back on but, I’m back to my starvation. I have been for at least 2-3 months now. And since I will have a stomach ulcer if I don’t eat, which I won’t.Not enough anyway. I want to get treatment for my Anorexia but, I’d like to wait until July to start treatment. And I’d like to know is it alright or should I start getting treatment any time after school ends on June 17th?
my mom’s at work in the morning when I get up and she can’t watch me at lunch when I’m at school can she? no.
II know that it’s 2 weeks away. I just want to wait a litle bit longer that’s all.
I didn’tsay inpatient or outpatient because I’m not sure which one to go to. Mostly because I haven’t found anything in Surrey, Canada. I probably will end up going t one out of Surrey if I have to though.

If you are thinking about treatment then you know you have a problem.

You need to deal with it now! The long term affect of eating disorders on yours body are awful and some irreparable.

Your family will be hurt when they find out so go get help now and when you are ready tell your mother.

I had anorexia and bulimia and the affect on my body are awful – no periods for almost a year has left me infertile and chances are I will hit menopause before I am 30. My teeth are horrible the vomit rotted my back teeth. Kidney infections – damaged due to dehydration, IBS due to laxatives.

Start your road to recovery now don’t wait – its a cliche but food does help you think and exams. Don’t screw up your future to be thin – its not worth it.

Good luck x

How closely is Veganism related to eating disorders like anorexia?

Thursday, November 19th, 2009

I notice that the Vegans are mostly very young, and are controlling their diet more for fear of weight than anything else.
It makes me think Vegan is just a PC term for bulimia/anorexia.
The primary features of both anorexia and bulimia are that they are control driven behaviour. Study after study comes up with this.
Sorry but when I read answers from Y!A Vegans they are anorexic and bulimic style asnswers.
It is all about control.
Worms? Who said anything about worms? Oddly enough you can get them from salads too.

you obviously don’t know too many vegans

what worms??

How to ease the separation anxiety of a mother dog from her puppies?

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

I have a chihuahua who had 3 puppies a few months back. Now that they are weened, I’ll be giving them to various family members. I’m worried that she’ll experience a lot of anxiety over this. Are there any ways to ease this? Will she get over having her puppies taken away from her?

Yep, after having many litters myself I can tell you that the best thing that you can do is to leave a few small stuffed toys around her.
She will more than likely start carrying them around and nesting them as she would her pups.
This will only go on for a short while and she will get over it.
Good Luck and God Bless

Anorexia help…scared of treatment?

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

I have been struggling with anorexia for over a year and i’ve been hospitalized 3 times and been in 2 treatment centers. I have been out of the hospital since april 2008 and i thought i’ve been doing well, but i guess i’ve lost some weight and I weigh 100 pounds and i’m 5 ft 8 inch and my team is talking about sending me back to treatment if my doctors appointment on thursday does not go well. Do you think 100 pounds is underweight for my height? If so, do you think my doctor will send me back to treatment?

Im a little taller than you, 5ยด9ft. I also weigh about 100lbs.
I also struggle with Anorexia and also got out of the hospital last April.

Embalmers: How does anorexia effect the embalming process?

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

As a student, I’m not sure. I am thinking that anorexia would cause the body to be emaciated and dehydrated. Humectant and tissue builder?

Yes, I would definitely use a low index solution so as not to dehydrate the already emaciated tissue. Use of a humectant and fluid conditioner will also aide in keeping the tissue hydrated. When using feature builder, make sure you use regular, not firming. Also be sure to apply plenty of massage cream to the face to prevent any browning out. Good luck!
