Information on Bulimia Treatment

 By: Brett Fuller

Bulimia is an eating disorder, in which a person will eat large amounts of food and will then feel the need to eliminate what has been consumed. After a session of eating huge quantity of food, a bulimic will resort to methods like vomiting, starving for long periods of time and in order to induce vomit, will use substances such as Ipecac.

Bulimia can be caused due to various factors in a person’s life. These factors might be psychological, biological, societal pressures to look thin, family of the individual, any traumatic event and media pressure to look a particular way. A negative self image is created due to these factors in one’s life. A Bulimic person will never be satisfied with his/her body weight and appearance and will try and reduce more and more, till it becomes life threatening. A Bulimic person will face lot of problems in his/her life. They will feel isolated due to their disease.

They will be depressed and will feel deprived of satisfaction in many areas of their lives. They might also have drug and alcohol addiction, and will have other physical problems such as stomach problems, intestinal problems and dental problems. Bulimia can be treated effectively and there are lots of Bulimia treatment centers all around the world, to rectify this problem. These centers will generally have a helpline number where the initial call can be made, in case you or someone close to you requires eating disorder help.

The center in turn will connect you to their staff and eating disorder experts, who will answer all your queries regarding Bulimia treatment. You can come and meet the doctors and get more information, and even take a tour of the facility to get an idea about treatment programs. These Bulimia treatment centers will create a unique treatment program as per each individual’s requirement. They will evaluate a person’s health, physical and mental condition to create the most effective treatment Programs.

Treatment programs in these centers will include individual therapies, group therapies, education and awareness about the disease, body image counseling, nutritional education and care and supervised meals and outings to restaurants. These patients will have a highly structured and supervised living arrangement, in which they will follow a healthy diet regime. It is recommended to take eating disorder help, if you feel that you or somebody close to you is going through an eating disorder. As these disorders can have life threatening consequences.

Many people with social anxiety disorder feel that there is “something wrong,” but not recognize their feeling as a sign of illness. Physiological effects, similar to those in other anxiety disorders, are in social phobics. Social anxiety disorder can be so debilitating that it interferes with work, school and other regular activities. Social anxiety disorder can be linked to other mental disorders such as anxiety disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorder and depression. Signs and symptoms of social anxiety disorder can fluctuate over time. Physical symptoms include “mind going blank”, fast heartbeat, flushing, stomach pain. Cognitive distortions are a hallmark, and learned in CBT. Thoughts are often self-defeating and inaccurate. Some sufferers can reduce alcohol or other drugs to fears and inhibitions at social events. Social anxiety disorder can occur together with other anxiety disorders and depression. In addition, people can develop with social anxiety, problems with drug abuse or dependence, if they drink or use drugs to treat “themselves” their symptoms. Selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs), a class of antidepressants, will be seen by many as the first choice drugs for generalized social phobia.

Eating disorders are determined as long term illnesses that also require long term treatment. This disorder can occur frequently and can be a result of other illnesses such as substance abuse, depression and anxiety. The sooner that this disorder is diagnosed that better it is for the treatment of the same. It has been known through research that most of the people who are affected with this disorder are women in the age bracket of 12 to 25. However, recent studies indicate that men too are prone to the disorder and are getting affected in large numbers. Eating Disorder sufferers are male and female alike. We are of all ethnicity’s, religions, and economic backgrounds. We are of all ages, with very different body structures. We can look normal on the outside and yet be suffering terribly on the inside. Genetics, Psychology, and Media all influence the onset of an eating disorder. Once we get caught in the cycle, some days it seems as though we will never break free. We constantly beat ourselves up, every moment of every hour of every day. If we could just be perfect in some way then we would be ok. It is easier to stand alone, free from the rejection, and disappointment of others. In our loneliness we listen to the constant torment inside our heads. Emotional hunger is the main cause of binge eating. According to some findings, more than 50% of binge eaters suffer from some form of depression. Generally, sufferers are victims of overwhelming emotional pain. Stress, boredom, anger, jealousy, pain and fear trigger episodes of overeating in some people. People with low self-esteem, disturbed childhood histories and lonely lives are most vulnerable to binging. What makes binge eating so formidable is the pattern it creates in the life of the individual. You may make a decision to be on a strict diet to lose weight. This can predominantly occur after several days of binging. If you restrict food after a while, you may feel very deprived. The urge for a treat may come over you. If you have a history of binge eating disorder, giving in to a treat may cause disappointment and self-loathing. You may feel so disgusted with yourself that you start to binge again. Gentle Eating – Begin your meal by closing your eyes and breathing slowly, noticing how you are feeling, Sad, Mad or glad? Locate your hunger on a scale of 1-10. One being starved and ten being stuffed. Spend 15 minutes in silence and put your fork down after each bite. When 15 minutes is completed, take time to stretch and breathe, locate your hunger again and then finish your meal. Types of Eating DisordersAnorexiaAnorexia is caused by people starving themselves because they fear becoming fat. They never believe that they are thin enough, even when they are underweight. Not only do people with Anorexia restrict calorie intake, but they also exercise, diet pills and purge. Binge Eating DisorderBinge eating disorder causes people to overeat compulsively and feel guilty and ashamed of their behavior. However, they are unable to control this compulsive habit even when they are uncomfortably full.

There are many eating disorders. Many people take an eating disorder is classified only as an eating disorder when it is extreme. This is not necessarily the case. All eating disorders begin somewhere, and usually they start with very small or very occasional use food aversions, either in the first place, or hold food within the system.

Eating disorders are not always the psychological and sometimes there are physical reasons why not want a person who can eat or can not meet what food has absolutely nothing to do with aversions to food, so people should not too quickly make snap judgments. Underlying diseases or internal defects often account for a large number of cases that go where the people just assume a person has an eating disorder.

Many people, especially women and a growing number of teenage girls suffer from eating disorders. The vast majority of the time the reasons are psychological and have a lot to do with people with a “self-image of themselves. In these days there is a great pressure on women to look super slim and model looks good, and that is simply to follow an unrealistic expectation for the general population. Not everyone has been blessed with such extraordinary genetics, and they feel by people for not fitting to have been assessed. This can lead to consume too many women at ridiculously small amounts of food, and often the food they consume does not bring them back in the erroneous and dangerous belief they can meet somehow, the mythical creature that the expectations that are imposed upon them.

The most common eating disorders are anorexia nervosa and bulimia. Typically, anorexia is a very poor appetite, which does not necessarily worse than a person eating condition. Bulimia is a disorder in which people often binge eating large quantities of food then intentionally bring back the food to avoid weight gain.

Eating disorders are extremely dangerous. The human body needs to consume food and the food industry needs to remain in the system to be interrupted in vital nutrients. Eating disorders, whether food is consumed, to start or back up, is crucial for the famine and the effects of malnutrition will start to show soon. Eating disorders can be particularly stressful for helping the suffering person and loved ones, who often feel too powerless. If you suffer from an eating disorder, it is important that you are true to themselves and give them and seek professional help as soon as possible so that you can begin to recover and treat not just your eating disorder, but the questions to start where it aroused.
