Eating Disorders;what really happens

Thursday, June 17th, 2010

*Song* Creep-(originally by Radiohead)covered by Damien Rice This isn’s thinspiration, this isnt an anti-eating disorder video, or anything close to that. This video was made to show how eating disorders effect certain people and the pain that is commonly associated with them, along with different types of disorders. I used to have an eating disorder and just got an inspiration to share the sort of stages i went through. If you want a video of all emaciated women or are loking to hate on pro-ana’s, sorry, this isnt the video your looking for. Thanks everyone for the feedback. Its so nice to know that this is reaching out to people. I also hope that this can add a little support to the millions of people out there suffering from not only eating disorders, but also from any other forms of pain that are unfortunately very common today. This is proof that your not alone, take care everyone.

Is Group Therapy Really Helpful For Eating Disorder Sufferers

Sunday, May 9th, 2010

Group therapy for eating disorders might be helpful for some patients, but can also very controversial for others. This article will give an overview and a summary of the various topics with group therapy in the treatment of eating disorders. Why group therapy can be helpful? Group therapy can be very good for the patient information on significant issues that can not be addressed elsewhere, such as nutrition, medical consequences of laxative abuse or assertiveness techniques. Educating patients in groups saves time for the individual therapy more personalized and deeper questions. The members of the group to educate each other from their varied experience in identifying and solving problems. If you’re on the subject from a different angle you can see that when group members to educate each other they begin to teach, can mutually not only things that help them to fight their eating disorder, but also the tips and tricks on how to a possibly anorexia-bulimia better and sneaky. By listening to the exchange with others and learn the patient that they are not alone in their suffering, their feelings and experiences with an eating disorder. It can increase a person’s self-esteem only to realize that they are neither crazy, nor alone. But from the other side of group therapy offers patients with a lot of friends who are also anorexic or bulimic. You learn to understand each other very well and develop team spirit attitude. This means that if they get better, they need to leave the group and stay on their own. Often they do not want to leave their friends so that they remain the same. All people benefit, adopted and cared for, even if they have to make changes. Eating disordered patients often feel or have been rejected by their families and others to leave and the only system that they feel they can support the therapy group. But it does also point to the suffering in the group. You feel good while they are in the group but all the loose sense of self when they have to go home again. Often, patients have lost or never acquired the necessary confidence and interpersonal skills to quality, to develop relationships. With the help of other members of the group, the patients can learn what their feelings and how they communicate. are patients who are otherwise a hard time relations can eventually learn to share, to come too close, trust, love, and from the group loved. But on the other side by the proximity to each other, people get too many negative images of each other. If a young woman has never heard of drinking ipecac to induce vomiting and learns this technique in group therapy, they can try, from the technology, so that feeling of team leader or a member responsible. Often, patients intentionally bad or to get more of the symptoms, only to extra attention from each other or the therapist. This type of competition always exists in eating disorder groups but on many different levels. Sometimes it can get out of control and cause a lot of damage to some members of the group, the most venerable ones. Eating disorder groups for some people, the only place where they are understood and accepted, but it may damage experience, in which the members are complaining that the recovery is not possible and there is no hope. It is destructive for the rest of the suffering, if one member says many terrible things to do or is not she stop. This can have a tendency to turn ideas into the subconscious minds of other members, and is exactly what is not needed and is not a bit helpful to the other patients. Finally, eating disorder groups may give some positive impact on a sufferer, but it can also be very dangerous and unacceptable to many people. The most important point of all eating disorder therapy is a suffering to be independent and a fully functioning individual. This means that the person should be of any type of dependency, always free, as is the dependence of what we are trying to get rid of first line: Unfortunately, group therapy does not offer this option. For this reason, I believe, a home based treatment may be a better option for eating disorder sufferers in comparison to other options such as home based free-destructive negative input from other stakeholders.

Pro Anorexia – Anorexia As a Lifestyle They Say…but is It Really Like That?

Friday, April 9th, 2010

Anorexia is a mental state typical for modern society, is represented in the beauty of thinness for most people, and in which fat people are disgracious of many. Under these conditions, starting many young girls and women, some men in a few cases, do everything possible to lose weight, and they go into a kind of noise and to stop eating, nothing to serious health problems and ultimately leads to death by starvation. These people, affected by anorexia start losing a lot of weight, but they do not notice it, and although they are much thinner, they should not put an end to their thoughts that they are not thin enough and try more weight to lose. Lots of people suffer from anorexia, and a few famous singers and actresses have problems that anorexia associated with death in some cases had.

Although anorexia is a serious disease that destroys many innocent young lives, some people are encouraged with a pro-anorexia attitude, and there are a number of websites on the internet that anorexic people and gives advice on how to stay away from foods and how to lose more weight. This attitude is totally unacceptable because it promotes the eating disorder and disease.

This pro-anorexia Web sites try to help anorexics to integrate into society (a common fact about anorexic people is that they be kept away from society because they feel fat and therefore rejected tend) to support them, and also so that they know that other people like them.

for Pro anorexia (or pro-ana) land that is not anorexic, and the constant concern for thinness and eating a disease, it is a lifestyle, and anorexics are idealists, promote abstinence and healthy fat-free foods.

These web sites are forums where they are anorexic people and come to their ideas and needs and others and answer their questions and help them. These forums promote anorexia as a rule, and in them there are a lot of places where to excessive weight loss and extreme thinness also encouraged.

Some of the Pro Anorexia organizations are quite extreme, and they defy that their “lifestyle” disease, the treatment must hold. They claim to help anorexics and help them, but what seems at first glance a supportive web site may be in fact a pro-anorexia are. Even for images of stars really thin or of himself, if they are very thin to other people become inspirat Sun

The attitude of society on these pro anorexia sites is of course a negative, but this issue should be discussed and taken into the more attention because these sites are dangerous, especially for young girls who have lost too shy to talk to her family. These children can make friends in these pro anorexia communities and start to be anorexic yourself and always have an ideal in extremely thin. A tough stance should be taken against pro anorexia, that confusion is that there is a life-style spread and those who suffer from him to avoid treatment.

Anorexia Symptoms & Causes ? is That Fat Person in the Mirror Really You

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

How many parents fear the word “diet” if brought up in a subject by their child? How many parents who see their child dieting when already in a perfectly healthy condition becomes greatly concerned because they know where it can lead. Anorexia is not a rare condition therefore making it all the more frightening because it proves “many” people suffer from the disease. This is a good thing in a way because doctors are familiar with the disease which enables them to diagnose severity along with prescribing appropriate medication.

If you believe your child has an eating disorder, then they most probably have. As a parent you know your child best, and if eating behaviors change then you will be the first to notice. Understanding anorexia nervosa will always be difficult for a non sufferer and vise a versa, where the patient finds it hard to understand why those close to them is not agreeable to what they do..

For the person with anorexia they can never be too thin despite being dangerously below their natural weight. Sadly neither do they see the physical and emotional damage that they impose upon them self. Anorexia is a serious and potentially deadly eating disorder. With support from the right source it is curable. Unfortunately it is not a condition remedied overnight. The healing process is long but comes with great rewards when the fat person you believe you are disappears. Anorexia nervosa is characterized by an illogical fear of becoming fat.

Anorexics go to great lengths to reach a dangerously low body weight. It is a continuous turbulent battle to lose more weight for the ailing. Evidence of protruding ribs is not enough to have them see sense.

Are you worried over your child’s eating habits, if so seek medical help as soon as. Sooner is always better than later. Nipping an illness or disease in the bud will up the odds in curing the health issue

There are two types of anorexia. 1. Weight loss is attained by restricting calories. Anorexics religiously follow radical diets and exercise exertion to an unhealthy level. 2. Weight loss is attained from ridding calories by vomiting or using laxatives and diuretics. Both of which are dangerous ways to shed excess pounds.

Anorexia is typically recognized in teenage girls between the ages of 13 and 20. Nonetheless it is also suffered by men and children. About one in 250 women and one in 2,000 men get anorexia at some time. Scarily anorexia can rise from just dieting. Once the scales show weight loss it then becomes a desire to lose more.

Each individual aside from the overweight issue will have their own reasons why they allow the condition to continue. Some folk feel powerless. Some abstain from eating because they find it helps them cope with different emotions, i.e. anger, shame and self-loathing. Anorexics are a class act in hiding their eating disorder; nevertheless it comes to light when the bones begin rattling regardless of the baggy cardigan and pants.

To clear up the confusion between losing your appetite and the disease, anorexia nervosa is when a person denies them self food. With the eating disorder bulimia nervosa; the person goes through times when they binge eat only to purge it back up again. Some anorexics may also do the same

Symptoms of anorexia can include:

” Hair loss

” Feeling cold

” Disturbed sleep patterns

” Constipation and stomach pain

” Face and ankle puffiness

” Dizziness

” Fatigue – aching muscles

” Hard to control concentration

” Nervousness and mood swings

” Missing three consecutive periods

Anorexia nervosa can cause osteoporosis, infertility and damage the heart. Death has been the outcome for some untreated anorexics. Starvation, dehydration, infections and heart failure were the designated causes. It is said if you suffer from type 1Diabetes you are likely to develop anorexia. Also a past weight problem increases the risk of anorexia. Emotional upsets such as family breakups or abusive relationships can also give cause.

If you can openly address you have the problem then you are on the road to recovery.

Contact your GP. The doctor will ask questions to determine severity of the condition and to how far in to the disease you have fallen. A referral to see a psychiatrist or psychologist may be suggested .This does not mean you are mad, in fact it means your sensibility has come to the fore and you now have the people at your side that can help. Now you have faced up to having anorexia – treatment sessions are easier. Therapy is to re-establish a healthy attitude towards food and a consistent pattern of eating. Talking to fellow sufferers can be a huge help.

Although there is no specific medication to heal anorexia, there is for the causes of eating disorders. Psychotherapy is ideally therapeutic. Psychotherapy helps identify the reason that may have caused anorexia. Hospital may be imminent for some – mainly because anorexia has reached the stage where it is life threatening. In an attempt to get the patient back to a healthy state, hospital treatment will entail giving the body back vital fluids and nutrients that the body lost.

If you are looking for help or looking to help someone then you will find the resources below helpful. With your own determination and patience and support from them closest to you will make the road to recovery one with no bends.

Free Weight Loss Tips: 7 Really Bad Ways to Lose Weight

Monday, March 8th, 2010

Some people are on a never-ending quest to find quick ways to lose weight. Many people jump from one method to another trying to find that magic bullet cure to dropping pounds the easiest and fastest way possible. The things they are willing to put their bodies through, while trying to achieve this goal, goes from mildly amusing to down right scary.

Maybe you’ve tried some of these methods yourself. Heaven knows there’s no shortage of advertisements, websites and product manufacturers encouraging you to try the latest, greatest fat loss miracle. Companies, and some individuals, make millions of dollars promoting these schemes to the unwary. The truth is, it would be a miracle if anyone was able to lose weight and keep it off permanently without either, wasting their money, or risking their health with these products and schemes.

Here’s a list of the worst ways you can choose to lose weight.

Starvation – This seems like one of the simplest ways to get weight to come off. I mean, not eating means you’re not ingesting any calories or fat, right? True. It also means that you’re literally starving your body of much needed nutrients it needs in order to function properly.

Most people who try to go the starvation route quickly find out that it’s hard to maintain for more than a few days. Not eating enough can lead to mental fogginess, feeling cranky and moody, and loss of energy. Who can get everything they need to do in the day done when they feel like this?

Plus, the worst part is that by denying your body the calories it needs, it will actually slow down your metabolism. You know what that means, right? Your body will not be able to burn fat efficiently. Instead, it will hold onto every single calorie you put into your body. Know why?

Because you’re starving it!

Our bodies are smarter than we think. They’re like machines. When your body gets less fuel than it’s used to, it knows enough to slow everything down and reserve its resources. When you finally

do get hungry and pig out, those calories will go straight to fat storage. Guess what? You may actually cause yourself to gain more weight by starving yourself.

Fad Diets – There’s an endless array of fad diets that instruct you to eat all kinds of things. Usually you have to eat the same food items, again and again, anywhere from 7

days to a whole month. For those who do manage to make it through a fad diet, their joy of dropping some water weight will be short lived.

Again, you can’t really lose enough weight and keep it off permanently by drinking lemonade, eating cabbage soup, diet cookies, ice cream, chocolate, popcorn, etc. While most fad diets do include healthy foods, they are way too strict and mundane to stick with for very long. Soon, you’ll

be craving your old comfort food favorites again. That is, until the next fad diet comes along.

Throwing Up – Okay, for most people, this is an uncomfortable idea and they won’t even try it. For others, it’s very attractive. They reason that you can eat anything you like, in any kinds of quantities, because it’s only temporary. Once you’ve pigged out, you go to the bathroom, stick your finger down your throat and up comes everything.

This temporary food enjoyment, followed by throwing up, can lead to serious health problems. Bulimia is a huge risk factor when you choose this road to weight loss. As we have seen too many times, people who use this method can develop serious issues with food and body image. This ultimately leads to life threatening consequences. Hey, you wanna lose weight, not end up a skinny basket case. Just being honest.

Pill Popping – Taking diet pills is one of the most popular ways people choose to lose weight. It’s also one of the most futile methods. If taking diet pills really worked well for all those who take them, then why do we see increasing numbers of obese people?

Diet pills have been around for decades, so you’d think that they would have a reputation for being so effective that most people would be slim and trim. Yet, here we are – fatter than ever.

Many people, who struggle with their weight, just don’t want to face the idea that it may take some actual work to drop those pounds. Instead, they desperately look for quick fixes, and there’s no quicker fix than popping a diet pill. Oh, and the promises the manufacturers make, are so over the top that it’s not any wonder they’re stuffing their pockets with cash. I mean, who wouldn’t want to drop all of their belly fat in 30 days flat – without lifting a finger or changing their eating habits?

Some diet pills are harmless herbal remedies that don’t really do much of anything. While others contain ingredients that have a detrimental effect on the body. There have been some sad news stories about people who’ve sustained permanent liver and kidney damage from taking a weight loss supplement. Others, unfortunately, have lost their life.

If you’re someone who is prone to taking diet pills, you need to stop and re-evaluate how effective they really are in helping you to lose weight. And, if they are that effective, why do you feel the need to keep taking them? Did you actually gain all that weight back?

Hmmm.

HCG Injections – Some people have resorted to taking hormone injections to lose weight. While our bodies naturally contain hormones, introducing any type of hormonal drugs into your body is really risky. While HCG is often used to help infertile women get pregnant, it is considered a controversial method in weight loss.

When you’re dealing with hormones, there’s gonna be side effects. Here are some of the documented side effects from taking HCG for long periods.

Abnormal breast enlargement (men), multiple birth pregnancies (women), tiredness, nausea, mood changes, acne, excessive fluid retention, sore throat, hair loss, prostate hypertrophy (men), unknown side effects from using counterfeit HCG.

Laxatives – The purpose of laxatives is to help loosen up the bowels if you’re constipated. That’s it. There is no evidence that taking laxatives to lose weight does anything positive to help the body shed fat. The thing is, as soon as you’ve ingested the food, your body goes into action to absorb calories. Taking a laxative after eating is already too late to prevent calories from going where they wish to go.

Those who have gone down this road often regret it, because laxatives can make you feel and look really ill. You can even become addicted to laxatives and end up being hospitalized. The damage you can cause your organs will not be worth all the pain and trouble.

Gimmicks – There are all types of silly products out there that claim they can help you melt away the fat in just minutes per day. Wrap yourself in a sweat suit or place a gyrating, electric belt around your waist. These are gimmicks that will just waste your time and money.

If you’re really serious about your health, there are smart ways to lose weight that don’t involve putting your body, and long-term well being, at risk. Losing weight takes real commitment, and yes – time. Many people who try things on the bad list just don’t want to hear this. They want to take shortcuts.

Well, again, if these shortcuts really worked, there wouldn’t be so many of these same people constantly trying to lose weight.
